PCjr wormhole!!
So as I've hinted in previous posts, a big move for us is coming soon... overseas in fact, and we won't be bringing much with us. This of course has me running mad to consolidate, toss, sell, and give away things. This weekend I turned my attention to a pile of old computers.
I spent the greater part of Friday cleaning up an old Windows ME machine and backing up files. Next to it is an old XT machine that needs cleaning as well. Just about all that's left downstairs is an old IBM PCjr that won't need cleaning per se, since it doesn't have a hard disk... but it does have a lot of floppies that should be looked at before the machine is permanently retired, passed on, or junked.
Or so I thought, until I looked up "uses for an IBM PCjr" only to find that people out there are using these today to do things like IRC, play games, and one guy has even written TCP/IP code to set up his machine as a BBS or a web server. I mean.... WHAT??
And of course, Google had to show me how much these old machines go for on eBay. So... that settles it. I'm keeping it. Even if I have to have my sister hang onto it for me. It's staying in the family. Further evidence that I'm probably slightly off my rocker. Any other vintage computing nerds out there?
